Yeah, I am a dude, married, in love, with children, whom I adore, and other various skills including musical and programming, and a some cooking skills as well. I have a day job, ambitions, hobbies and so on and so forth, and a deep rooted passion for racing.
This isn't to uncommon in this world. I think I just read an article about how iRacing has over 100k active members, a lot of race on real tracks with real vehicles, but I am sure a lot more do not. My lack of funds and time limit my chances of racing in the real world, but that won't prevent me from racing now.
My love for racing comes from my father, who still drag races and has done some pro stock dirt track racing and is currently building a modifed b class to get back on the dirt oval. I have watched NASCAR and NHRA since I was a little kid. Again , not to uncommon, but I think it is important to understand what all of us see in the sport that we love so much.
Firstly, it is the spirit of competition. There are many games that are popular that have the spirit of competition, and I believe within that spirit is the act of sportsmanship . Without it, there would be no love for the game. Part of winning, is losing, a lot. Some lose more than others, but we all have to learn, climb, practice, improve, analyze , and try again and again. Baseball is one of these sports where all players lose more than they ever will win, and base there performance on fractions. No baseball player has ever hit a ball more than half of the time at bat, and in fact, we praise a player who can hit the ball near or just over one fourth of the times at bat. Racing is no different, for every racer, there will only be one winner. Racing, unlike baseball, is a game of endurance. First you practice getting around the track without losing control, then with other cars, then in a real race you try to simply just finish, and then stay on the lead lap, and then hopefully a top ten, a top five, a podium, a runner up, and God willing, a win. It is not easy, and arguably , harder than hitting a baseball.
Secondly, the desire to go fast. This is really what racing is all about, and in the real world and in the sim, it actually isn't easy. You can't go fast if you are overly cautious, and you can't go any faster when your losing control. Strangely, that is what any race car driver is trying to do, go as fast as possible without losing control. When you beat your own time, or grab the pole ( or even front row ), it is the best feeling ever.
Who Am I? I am a virtual race car driver, in my amateur hour, on a quest to go pro.
